Janet Spencer King
Publishing has been my entire professional life and I have had many roles in the industry. After extensive magazine experience, including as editor of several national ones, I turned my attention to books. For a time I had my own literary agency. There I guided clients in creating compelling proposals and turning manuscripts into ones that were lively and highly professional. I also wrote a number of books, published by major houses.

Because of my 25+ years experience as both an editor and an author, I know what it’s like on both sides of the editor’s desk. I know what editors look for, and I understand the passion that drives authors, their desire to follow their dreams, and their determination to create their own publishing destiny.

In the publishing industry I have become known for my strong sense of what manuscripts will sell and the elements in them that create this success. I thrive on the variety of subject matter and formats, working with both fiction and non-fiction writers. As an editor I have a strong affinity for general commercial fiction, thrillers, mysteries, and women’s fiction. I also work on a wide range of non-fiction genres including self-help and personal growth, biography and memoir, travel, art/art history, and illustrated books.
